The Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico has received a challenge grant from the Carl C. Anderson Sr. and Marie Jo Anderson Charitable Foundation. The foundation will award the Food Bank a matching grant of $20,000 once the Food Bank has raised matching funds. Grant and matching funds will be earmarked for the Backpack Program and new Feeding Families pantry program.
The Food Bank has a fast-approaching deadline of Nov. 11, 2016, to raise $13,400 in matching funds to receive this grant.
The Food for Kids Weekend Backpack provides weekend food bags for over 400 students in 16 schools in Portales, Clovis and Texico, while the new pilot pantry program will provide 70 families with monthly food boxes this school year.
Last school year, Food Bank volunteers and staff assembled and distributed more than 15,000 bags of food last school year for the Backpack Program.
