Road work on Kilgore begins
Public Notice: Road Work on Kilgore from 3rd to HWY 70
The City of Portales Street Department is making road repairs on Kilgore Avenue from 3rd Street (NM 88) to HWY 70. The project begins today, July 24, 2017. The first part of the road repair is the section between RR 6 (the Walmart frontage road) and 3rd Street. This project section is anticipated to require approximately six (6) business days to complete. Kilgore Avenue from RR 6 to 3rd Street will be closed to through traffic between July 24 and July 31, 2017. The roadway will be prepared, given a penetrating oil coat to permeate the large cracking in the road, covered with a small rock material, and then given an asphalt overlay. The oil will need to dry for two (2) days before an asphalt layer can be applied. Please be aware that the oil will remain tacky until the asphalt layer is applied.
Workers and equipment will be on site and your adherence to posted speed limits and traffic control signage are critical for safety. The full project will include Kilgore Avenue between 3rd Street and HWY 70. Sections under repair will be closed to through traffic during the road work. We ask that residents and business traffic without another access drive slowly and safely to help us provide you with an improved road surface. The project is anticipated to be completed on or around August 31, 2017.
